Why Should We Care?
The
problem with any species going extinct is that it can dramatically affect other
species in its community, which can set off a chain reaction within its
ecosystem. In this case, if the ringed seals population decreases, it would
affect the population of species that feed on ringed seals. Ringed Seals play a
vital role in the arctic ecosystems. Their extinction would greatly damage
other species' ability to survive.
Also,
the decreasing ringed seal population will increase the population of the
species that ringed seal prey on like shrimp or certain fish, and these
organisms then may cause another species to go extinct, because of too many
predators. The change of one species in the population affects many other
species as well. Knowing this, we should be more aware of our actions and save the
ringed seal species.
